McDowell Guardian ad Litem is looking for individuals who have a heart for children and want to be a voice for abused and neglected children in foster care. This is a volunteer opportunity like no other. You will help a child have a voice in the decisions affecting their future, while learning more about our local courts and family services. Being a child advocate for G.A.L. is challenging, rewarding, and has a real impact on a child's life. Our volunteers complete an interview, a background check, 30 hours of pre-service training, observation time in district court, and are sworn in by a local judge before being matched with a child's case. The average time commitment to serve a child is 8-10 hours per month. Volunteers in McDowell have access to full-time staff support, an attorney advocate, annual training opportunities, and group support meetings with other volunteers.
